![]() During his childhood, Carlin attended Corpus Christi, a Roman Catholic school in Morningside Heights. ![]() Carlin’s mother, Mary Beary, had abandoned him and his father when he was an infant. ![]() His father was a national advertising manager in the New York Sun, and his mother was a secretary. He was recruited as a radar technician and was posted to Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. Carlin joined the Air Force in 1954 after dropping out of high school so that he could use the GI Bill to cover his further education. However, very few might know that before stepping onto the public stage, he was a veteran. George Carlin, known to be outspoken and funny, was one of the most celebrated comedy greats of all time.
